Historic Edenton Has the Holiday Season all Wrapped Up for You

Edenton, NC – This joyous season will be ushered in with “Destination Downtown Edenton’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony” on Friday, December 4th at 6:00 pm.  Carols, goodies, train rides & a visit from Santa will get everyone ready for this very special time of year and all that follows. 

The Albemarle Chorale’s Christmas Concert at the Edenton United Methodist Church will take place at 7 pm featuring many holiday favorites on Thursday, December 10th. The 28th Annual Christmas Candlelight Tour Weekend lends itself to small-town charm for the season with many private homes decorated in that holiday magical way taking place on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12th at 4 – 8 pm.  Headquarters for this event will be The Barker House located on the Edenton Waterfront and will also be the place where you can partake of a little Holiday Repast.  Tour tickets will be $25 per person and $20 per person for groups of 20 or more.  Tour Weekend activities will include the Annual Groaning Board at the James Iredell House and the Annual Wassail Bowl at the Cupola House featuring refreshments and entertainment from 1 – 5 pm both days.  Historic buildings will be decorated with fresh fruit and greens as done during their appropriate time-period.

Young and old will come together in holiday song on Friday, December 11h at 6 pm for Caroling in the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse, one of the most outstanding public buildings of colonial America.  The 1767 Chowan County Courthouse has recently been restored and is now open to the public for guided tours and will be included on the tour for all to enjoy during the weekend.  You will want to make sure and stop by the Chowan Arts Council and indulge in a delicious sweet during their Confection Perfection from 4 – 9 pm as well as view the wonderful exhibits and beautiful gift items in the gallery shop. 

Floats, Boats and Bands will line Broad Street on Saturday, December 12th at 11 am with the Annual Edenton-Chowan Christmas Parade and Monday, December 14th will find Historic Edenton State Historic Site the place for you to learn the art of Period Christmas Decoration making by those who really know how.

So, when you couple all of these activities with our fine dining, accommodation selections, antique and boutique shops, you will see that Edenton, indeed, does have this festive season all Wrapped Up for You!
