Red Bull Pump Track World Championship to Hold Qualifier in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — This fall the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship heads to back to the USA — this time to Gastonia — in what is set to make for an epic day of pump track racing with some of the best riders in MTB and BMX ready to give it all on the track.

The Red Bull Pump Track World Championship has already succeeded in creating a revolutionary global series with over 23 groundbreaking inaugural events around the world in 2018. More than 2,000 athletes participated in over 19 countries and 67 riders competed in a World Final that saw local heroes, Olympic BMX racers and MTB World Champions compete on an even playing field. Now in 2019, the series is back with more stops, more athletes and more Pump-Action.

In the gently rolling hills, riverbeds and creek valleys of Gaston County, Velosolutions constructed a 10,000-square-foot pump track at George Poston Park. The track is complemented by more than 10 miles of single track.

GO Gaston, charged with optimizing brand experiences and driving visitation and partner economic growth for Gaston County, is excited at the prospect.

“We are jacked to be hosting a Red Bull event during our first year with a Velosolutons track,” said GO Gaston Director Michael Applegate. “The pump track has been an incredible asset for drawing interest in our destination, and welcoming a World Qualifier this fall creates another level of excitement.”

On Saturday, Sept. 22, Gaston County Parks & Recreation will be hosting its annual Bikefest. Bikefest will feature bike vendors, food trucks, entertainment and local breweries. During the event, there will be guided mountain bike rides and demos of skateboarding, longboarding, and other outdoor sports culminating in the second Red Bull Pump Track World Championship Qualifier on US soil for the 2019 season.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Velosolutions and Red Bull to host a Red Bull Pump Track World Championship Qualifier in Gaston County, said Brandon Black, GO Gaston sales and marketing director. “Our destination has many outdoor sports offerings, so hosting this event is a great way to showcase those amenities.”

The Red Bull Pump Track World Championship represents a partnership between Red Bull and Switzerland-based Velosolutions, globally recognized for its pump track and bike park construction. The series sees amateurs compete against pros and BMX against MTB on a level playing field.
