Former Wilmington Resident Linda Lavin Returns for Symphony Pops

Jan. 10, 2017

WILMINGTON, N.C. ― The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is pleased to welcome back Tony Award Winner Linda Lavin in the headlining role for a special Symphony Pops performance. Lavin, who lived in Wilmington from 1995 to 2012, will be accompanied by pianist Billy Stritch, bassist Tom Hubbard, jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein, and drummer (and husband) Steve Bakunas. Hear selections by Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Jimmy Dorsey, and more. The concert is on Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wilson Center.

Please join us for an evening of great music in the format popularized by Arthur Fiedler with the Boston Pops! In his fifty-year tenure as Pops Conductor, Fiedler established the Boston Pops as a national icon. His programs were an extremely successful blend of classical and popular, - - from jazz to pop, film music to Broadway, light classics to the Great American Songbook, - - while also showcasing popular artists alongside up-and-coming young American soloists.  Taking a turn in the spotlight will be the inspiring performances of Wilmington Symphony's Young Artists**.  Daniel Cheng will perform Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1, 1st movement, and Quentin Lovette will perform Augustin Lara's Granada.
